I’m trying to think of this moment as my first waking in the world. As if reality, experience, conscious awareness had eluded me until here and now. Sitting in the passenger seat howling down the highway, suddenly everything is foreign, everything brand new. The sound of the radio, the feeling of having legs, limbs. Seeing through eyes. The whisper of the wind. Visual experience never known, joy never felt, despair a distant dream. Only this moment, a complete surprise, and everything in it. Every piece of conscious awareness, suddenly in a crescendo of now. To feel that. To feel for the first time.
